The California Highway Patrol will continue surge operations for another month to combat crime in Oakland and other Bay Area locations, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Friday morning while urging a change to a controversial police policy.

Gov. Gavin Newsom came to Oakland to make the announcement, promising that CHP resources will be directed to other Bay Area cities as well.

Gov. Gavin Newsom warned Oakland officials Friday that the state might withdraw California Highway Patrol support in combating crime unless the city revises its policy restricting police from engaging in vehicle pursuits.
