ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Wild announced on Monday that they have placed defenseman Jared Spurgeon on the Injured Reserve list. Spurgeon, 35, suffered a lower-body injury against the Nashville Predators after Zachary L'Heureux slew-footed him. He was given a three game suspension.

Minnesota Wild captain Jared Spurgeon is expected to miss two to three weeks with an apparent right leg injury.

Even though he is not deemed a "repeat offender" by the NHL, at only 21 years old, L'Heureux has been suspended 11 times at lower levels.

The veteran defenseman was run into the end boards on a slew-foot by Nashville’s Zachary L’Heureux, who was suspended for three games.

Captain Jared Spurgeon has avoided serious injury and will only miss two to three weeks with a lower-body injury, Wild hockey boss Bill Guerin told reporters Thursday.

Coach John Hynes called it a “cheap hit” and “undisciplined” play, but didn’t have an official update on Spurgeon after the game. The NHL Department of Player Safety will surely look at the hit, which drew L’Heureux a match penalty. “It didn’t look good,” Hynes said.
