Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated on June 19, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Also called Emancipation Day, Freedom Day or Jubilee Day, Juneteenth is the commemoration of June 19, 1865, the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned that they were free.

Across North Jersey, Juneteenth is being celebrated with various events, from the release of a new report on reparations to a silent walk in Bergen County.

Events celebrating Juneteenth are taking place this weekend, including the Juneteenth Family Festival happening Saturday in Beverly and Morgan Park. The free festival is expected to draw more than 5,000 people.
