King Soopers workers in the Denver area will vote on whether to authorize a strike after contract negotiations failed. A statement by King Soopers accused union negotiators of “stall tactics and creating uncertainty.” The company said its final offer included significant investments of up to a 6% increase in the first year of the contract and “promises to support, protect and invest” in employees’ interests.

Contract negotiations have broken off between King Soopers, City Market workers in the Denver area, and Kroger, the union representing the workers announced on Jan. 17.

Together, with potential strikes by Safeway and Costco workers, grocery workers could launch one of the first major labor struggles under the new Trump administration.
