Authorities swept in with flash-bangs and tear gas grenades to disperse hundreds of protesters in Los Angeles.
President Donald Trump federalized 4,000 National Guard troops over the objection of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and also sent in 700 Marines to Los Angeles. California has asked a federal court to block the government from using troops in L.A. outside of federal property.
Over the years, Trump has threatened to intercede in the state’s long-running homeless crisis, vowed to withhold federal wildfire aid as political leverage in a dispute over water rights, called on police to shoot people robbing stores and warned residents “your children are in danger” because of illegal immigration.

The sweeps have fueled six days of protests resulting in hundreds of arrests in Los Angeles and the demonstrations have spread across the nation.
A hearing is scheduled today in San Francisco for a legal challenge Gov. Gavin Newsom and California Attorney General Rob Bonta filed against Trump.
