Nick Pivetta pitched on Tuesday like something he has never been before this season. An ace. He huffed and puffed. He stalked. He made his displeasure with a few ball calls known. He allowed two hits and shut out a first place team over seven innings and did all he could to get the San Diego Padres a victory they badly needed.

San Diego got a big pitching performance from starter Nick Pivetta. He limited scoring opportunities for Detroit by limiting hits and base traffic. Pivetta completed seven innings and allowed just two hits, while keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard. He also recorded six strikeouts and allowed two walks.
