King Soopers workers in the Denver area will vote on whether to authorize a strike after contract negotiations failed. Votes are scheduled Jan. 29-Feb 1 in the metro area, Colorado Springs, Boulder, Broomfield and Pueblo. The union said specific times and locations for the vote are being given to grocery store workers directly.

Contract negotiations have broken off between King Soopers, City Market workers in the Denver area, and Kroger, the union representing the workers announced on Jan. 17.

On Thursday, the day before the labor contract extension expired, King Soopers presented a "final offer" to the union that featured "significant investments of up to a 6% increase in year one of the contract" and vowed to "support, protect and invest in the interests of their valued associates," the company said in a release.

Around 10,000 King Soopers employees are getting ready to vote on a potential strike following failed contract negotiations with the grocer.

A statement by King Soopers accused union negotiators of “stall tactics and creating uncertainty.” The company said its final offer included significant investments of up to a 6% increase in the first year of the contract and “promises to support, protect and invest” in employees’ interests.

The union has until Jan. 31 to make the decision to vote to strike or not. Former president George W. Bush took the internet by storm during the 2025 Inauguration of President Donald Trump, where the 43rd president seemed to have a playful moment during the proceedings.
