The Krasheninnikov volcano, located less than 150 miles away from the epicenter of Russia’s July 29 earthquake, began erupting on August 3

A volcano in Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula erupted for what scientists say is the first time in hundreds of years. The volcano sent ash nearly 4 miles into the sky and the plume is spreading eastward toward the Pacific Ocean.

Krasheninnikov volcano has erupted on Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. This is the second volcano to erupt in the region following the magnitude 8.8 megaquake on July 30.
