SANAA - Yemen's Houthi group on Monday night took responsibility for launching a ballistic missile at the Israeli city of Tel Aviv.

A missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels targeted central Israel early Tuesday, sounding sirens and causing people to flee into bomb shelters.

Sanaa: Yemen's Houthi group said in a statement that it had launched a new missile and drone attack against the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the northern Red Sea in the past 24 hours, claiming the attack lasted nine hours.

Tens of thousands of Yemenis joined a demonstration in Sanaa to show solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where smoke could be seen from Israeli strikes against Houthi rebel targets. Israel's Defense Minister said the airstrikes in Yemen were a clear message to Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi.

The latest round of strikes occurred as the United States and its ally Israel struggle to halt a campaign of regional assaults by Yemen’s Houthi militants.

The Israeli military has conducted numerous attacks across Yemen saying it was targeting Houthi infrastructure.

Israel’s military says it carried out new airstrikes in Yemen against what it said were Houthi rebel targets. Its statement Friday said fighter jets struck “on the western coast and inland Yemen,” a day after the Houthis launched three drones at Israel.
