Garry Shandling, who as an actor and comedian pioneered a pretend brand of self-focused docudrama with “The Larry Sanders Show,” has died.

It was only after starting working in television that he moved to stand-up, and Shandling soon became a regular on Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show.
