Eighty years after the US bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, aging survivors — some more than 100 years old — reveal the shame and stigma they endured as young women of childbearing age.

At 11:02 a.m. Aug. 9, 1945, from 1,650 feet above Nagasaki, “Fat Man,” an atomic bomb fueled with Hanford site plutonium, was dropped.

Lt. Col. James H. "Jimmy" Doolittle famously led the first U.S. strike against the Japanese homeland during World War II, and Doolittle as a lieutenant general also had a little-known role by happenstance in the last strike.
