The storm will remain a major hurricane through the middle of the week, according to the National Hurricane Center.

According to multiple meteorological reports, Hurricane Erin does pose a threat as it moves through the Caribbean and toward Puerto Rico.

Hurricane Erin is continuing to spin in the Atlantic Ocean, bringing with it life-threatening surf and rip currents along the beaches of the Bahamas, much of the east coast of the United States, Bermuda and Atlantic Canada.

Hurricane Erin reduced its fury late Monday and returned to Category 3 potency, but was still expected to bring potentially deadly waves and rip currents to the East Coast midweek.

Impacts from Hurricane Erin, a category two hurricane, are expected to begin in North Carolina on Wednesday.

Authorities warned coastal flooding could push waves as high as 15ft (4.6m), with some roads remaining submerged for days.
