A 7-year-old Kannapolis girl was fatally shot by her sibling who picked up an unsecured gun Thursday morning in what police called an accident. The gun belonged to their mother’s boyfriend.

A 7-year-old girl was accidentally shot and killed by her sibling on Thursday, WCNC Charlotte reports. Kannapolis police responded to a reported shooting on Cabarrus Arms Drive around 7:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the child suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
