President Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs came under its first major legal challenge Monday, brought by a libertarian public-interest firm that argues the president overstepped his authority.

Trump has repeatedly called April 2 "Liberation Day." He is expected to enact reciprocal tariffs on major trading partners, especially those that contribute the most to the $1.2 trillion U.S. trade deficit.

A nonprofit public-interest litigation firm filed a lawsuit Monday alleging President Donald Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs require congressional approval. The Liberty Justice Center, based in Texas,
