So far, only two CMEs are forecast to arrive at Earth just in time to ring in the new year. As a result, the SWPC issued a Geomagnetic Storm Watch through Jan. 1.

One big exception will be in the East, where a storm will soak portions of the northeastern U.S. with rain and will even whiten some areas with light snow on New Year's Eve.
