Hawkins had eight 3s through his first 10 games at Tech, but has started a breakout from beyond the arc, which started against UCF on New Year’s Eve. He also knocked down four against Utah and it continued against the Cougars. Hawkins drilled six shots from deep, accounting for most of Tech’s shots from three, en route to his 22-point performance.

PROVO, Utah (KCBD) - The Texas Tech Red Raiders (11-3, 2-1 Big 12) fought their way back to grab a Big 12 Conference road win over the BYU Cougars, 72-67. BYU (10-4, 1-2 Big 12) had a five-point lead with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. Back-to-back triples ignited the Red Raider offense as they went on an 11-2 run at the time.

The loss to UCF may have been the wakeup call the Texas Tech basketball team needed, and wins over Utah and BYU were the result of getting tougher.

Neither NBA prospect in Tuesday's game had much of an impact. Instead, Darrion Williams and Elijah Hawkins carried Texas Tech basketball to a win over BYU.

After a 31-point drubbing at Houston Saturday, BYU comes back home Tuesday looking to bounce back versus a talented Texas Tech squad. Texas Tech is coming off an upset loss at home to UCF last Tuesday and a win at Utah Saturday where they beat the Utes by 28 points.
