Just 13 percent of children have gotten the latest Covid shot, according to the most recent CDC data. And after Republicans, led by President Donald Trump, turned the pandemic response into an increasingly partisan issue, states have veered away from efforts to require it.

The US Centers and Disease Control and Prevention is considering recommending annual Covid-19 shots to those who are older or who have compromised immune function, rather than the current blanket recommendation for everyone 6 months of age and older.

Notes from a recent meeting of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ COVID-19 Work Group show health officials are considering narrowing the recommended age range for universal vaccination from everyone over 6 months to those 65 and older and people with health complications for the next respiratory virus season.
