Fires burned through two separate south Minneapolis encampments Monday afternoon. The Minneapolis Fire Department says it responded to "reports of concerns about a fire and propane tank" at an encampment near Lake Street East and Columbia Avenue South around 1:45 p.

The first fire was reported at an encampment at East Lake Street and Columbus Avenue at 1:45 p.m. Firefighters arrived and found a small rubbish fire that was deemed unsafe and a propane tank within the fire that had a pressure relief valve venting, causing potential danger for rupturing or exploding.

Minneapolis public works cleared what was left of the encampment Monday evening, after fire crews extinguished the flames. Chief Tyner said there was also an encampment fire on Lake and Chicago Streets on Monday. He explained there were no injuries to his knowledge, and the encampment was not a total loss.
